"The Society for Industrial and Technological Research at NTH" was established in Trondheim, Norway, in 1950.
SINTEF developed the virtual memory system for the NORD-1, around 1969. SINTEF also developed the first version of SINTRAN, which at that time (according to some sources) was basically a FORTRAN compiler with a shell.
In 1993 SINTEF merged with SI in Oslo, after which the former SI became SINTEF Oslo.
