Acronyms used in the description of Norsk Data computers. This page lists some of the forgotten acronyms that makes it easier to read ND-documentation.
BRF
BRF, Binary Relocatable Format (main article: Binary Relocatable Format), compiled NORD-10/ND-100 program code in a form that can be loaded anywhere in memory. See NRL or BRF Linker.
DMA
DMA, Direct Memory Access, allows hardware subsystems to access main memory independent of the CPU[1].
HDLC
HDLC, High-Level Data Link Control. Asynchronous serial OSI level 2 protocol supported by several Norsk Data I/O cards.
NRF
NRF, ND Relocatable Format (main article: ND Relocatable Format), compiled ND-500(0) program code in a form that can be loaded anywhere in memory. See ND Linker.
MPM
MPM, Multi Port Memory, a Norsk Data memory subsystem (various revisions) designed for multi-CPU systems like the NORD-50, ND-500, ND-5000.
PIOC
PIOC, Programmable Input Output Controller, a term used about several Norsk Data I/O cards, e.g. 3108.
PIT
PIT, hardware Page Index Table. See Memory Management System.
SMD
SMD, Storage Module Driver, one of the types of disks used by ND computers.
TPS
Transaction Processing System, a transaction system handling transactions between I/O devices and programs. See TPS.
TRUE
TRransaction User Environment, a transaction monitor, network control and recovery system for databases. See TRUE.
